Qum (also spelled Qom) is located in central Iran, 100km south of the capital city, Tehran. As the 8th largest city in the country, its weavers are well-educated and they produce rugs to a very high standard despite being relatively new to the industry- only around 100 years ago did the city's production of silk and wool carpets begin.

Characteristics of Qum Rugs

Qum rugs tend to be small to medium in size and their average knot-count is high, rivalled only by major cities like Esfahan and Nain. Designs are usually floral however some weavers also depict pictorial scenes. Floral designs are used to produce all-over patterns as well as the more common layout of a central medallion with corner pieces.

Qum rugs are usually made entirely with silk and less commonly with wool. Regardless of the chosen material, a high standard is always met with regards to the quality of materials and the skill of the craftsmen who weave them.
